Russell, who is now playing for Huddersfield Town, is aiming a return to the Premier League.
Russell grew up at Stamford Bridge with players like Callum Hudson-Odoi and Billy Gilmour.
“I’ve been brought up in a Premier League environment since I was six, so the objective is to get back there,” he stated of his departure from Chelsea.
“It was difficult to leave Chelsea because I had made so many friends.”
“But that’s football; it’s all part of the adventure, and while I was sad to go, I didn’t want to lose any sleep over it.”
“Coming to Huddersfield was a matter of going one step back to take two steps ahead.”
“I’ve always believed in myself and have never panicked.”
Russell also acknowledges that when rising through the ranks, he looked up to Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
“You have to maintain standards high at Chelsea,” he remarked.
“I was admiring Ruben Loftus-Cheek. I had comparable growth spurt injuries to him, so he was someone I could connect to.”
“It’s unbelievable to think we’re maybe three games away from the Premier League,” Russell said of a probable return to the Premier League, where he’d play his previous side.
