Report: Piers Morgan Reacts to Rumor of Kai Havertz Moving to Arsenal
Piers Morgan has taken to Twitter to express his discontent after hearing a fresh rumor about Kai Havertz potentially joining Arsenal from Chelsea.
According to reports, Havertz has informed Chelsea of his desire to leave the club. In response to the speculation, Arsenal has reportedly made a new £60 million bid for the 24-year-old German midfielder as part of Mikel Arteta’s efforts to strengthen the team’s attack.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano tweeted that Arsenal has already agreed on a five-year contract with Havertz and hopes to finalize the deal this week, while Chelsea is holding out for a fee of £65 million.
Piers Morgan, an avid Arsenal fan, voiced his disappointment with the news, questioning why Arteta believes underperforming Chelsea players are the missing link to Arsenal’s title chances.
Morgan’s skepticism stems from Havertz’s underwhelming performance last season, where he scored just seven goals in 35 Premier League appearances as Chelsea finished 12th in the league.
Considering Havertz’s relatively low goal tally, Morgan finds it hard to justify Arsenal spending around £60 million on the player.
From Chelsea’s perspective, selling Havertz for £65 million would be seen as fantastic business. The club initially invested £71 million in the German midfielder, and although he had a significant impact by scoring the winning goal in the UEFA Champions League final in 2021, his overall goal-scoring record has been modest.
A potential transfer at the proposed fee would result in a mere £6 million loss for Chelsea, allowing them to reinvest the funds in a striker who better fits Mauricio Pochettino’s style of play.
As negotiations continue, it remains to be seen whether the deal between Arsenal and Chelsea for Kai Havertz will come to fruition.
