Mauricio Pochettino gives an update on whether Cole Palmer will be fit for Chelsea’s next game vs Aston Villa
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has provided an update on Cole Palmer’s fitness following their disappointing defeat to Arsenal.
In an interview with BBC Sport, Pochettino shared the latest news on Palmer’s recovery ahead of Saturday’s game against Aston Villa.
Palmer, who missed his first game in quite a while, saw his absence compounded by Chelsea’s 5-0 loss to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. The scoreline could have been even more disastrous if not for goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic’s efforts.
Recent matches have highlighted Chelsea’s reliance on the 21-year-old, but the defeat against Arsenal presented an opportunity for other players to step up. Unfortunately, they failed to do so, leaving Chelsea fans eagerly awaiting Palmer’s return to full fitness.
Pochettino addressed Palmer’s situation after the match, indicating that an assessment will be conducted to determine his availability for Saturday’s squad. He stated, “We don’t know, we need to assess tomorrow. We will see the squad that we have. We need to deal with the situation.”
One player who might have felt frustrated by Palmer’s absence is Carney Chukwuemeka, who remained an unused substitute for the second consecutive game. Despite appearing to be a suitable replacement for Palmer, he was not given the opportunity to prove himself on the pitch.
