‘I realised very quickly’: Frank Lampard shares what was seriously difficult with Chelsea’s players last season
Frank Lampard has revealed that he noticed a downbeat mood at Chelsea when he became interim manager. Speaking on Steven Bartlett’s ‘Diary of a CEO podcast,’ Lampard stated that some players were already thinking about leaving, despite a few weeks remaining in the season.
Lampard’s interim tenure at the club is often overlooked due to its lack of success. Chelsea won only one game during that time and finished the season in 12th place. Several players had underwhelming performances, and many of them subsequently left the club.
Lampard found it challenging to select a team when he observed that many players had a negative attitude. He explained that he saw their body language and realized they were already focused on their future elsewhere. This made his job difficult.
With significant player turnover already occurring this summer and more expected, Chelsea fans can expect a committed group of players for the upcoming season. The focus now shifts to identifying the players needed to help the club regain its competitiveness.
