“He obviously hasn’t played football” Rio Ferdinand blast the referee’s ruling to grant Chelsea a penalty Borussia Dortmund
Rio Ferdinand criticized the referee’s decision to award Chelsea a penalty during their 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday evening.
During BT Sport’s coverage of the match, Ferdinand expressed his opinion on the matter, stating: “It’s clear that the referee has never played football before. It’s impossible to move your hands out of the way in that situation. While I understand that there are rules in the game, some of them appear ridiculous. They’re attempting to remove any positivity for defenders. These regulations provide attackers with a significant advantage.”
Joe Cole, a former Chelsea player, added: “They’re attempting to make the rules straightforward, but there’s a gray area there. A footballer would understand that when you’re that close and attempting to obstruct the shot, your arm will naturally move in that direction. There’s nothing intentional about it.”
