Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho explained his choice by claiming that it was only based on penalties.
“It was only for penalties,” Tuchel explained. Ross has a better statistical record than Ruben, so it was all about the penalties.”
Tuchel was spot on in the end when Ross Barkley scored his penalty, but it wasn’t enough to give Chelsea the win.
After the game, Tuchel confirmed that Kai Havertz’s absence was due to a hamstring injury.
“We performed one last test with Kai,” he explained. He didn’t workout yesterday due to hamstring issues, and we were afraid that if he did, he’d harm himself, so we kept him out.
“We did everything medically, including a final test this morning, but it wasn’t any better or possible.”
