Chelsea wanted to recruit Jules Kounde from Sevilla last summer, and the Frenchman wanted to join Chelsea as well.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! After reaching an agreement for Kounde last summer, Sevilla reneged on the contract and demanded additional money, which Chelsea refused.
However, things appear to be turning around for Chelsea, as Sevilla president Jose Castro has stated that a deal would be made this summer to help the club balance its budget.
Sevilla has to generate £38 million by June 30 in order to balance their books and stay inside La Liga’s financial constraints, and Kounde is the club’s most marketable asset.
“It hasn’t gone unnoticed that we haven’t sold [players] in recent summers,” he told Mundo Deportivo.
“We brought in Tecatito [Jesus Corona] and [Antony] Martial in January, in addition to getting bids and not selling.
“We need to balance our books.” We know how to do it properly, and we know that when people go, players who will deliver for us in the future, both financially and on the field, will arrive.”
The release clause for Kounde is £67 million, but the Spanish giants have reduced their asking price to about £59 million.
Because the 23-year-old negotiated terms with Chelsea last summer, a move might be finalized swiftly this summer, which would be beneficial to Sevilla.
