“I know you joined Chelsea because of money” – Emmanuel Petit blast 2 players for joining Chelsea because of money
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Former Chelsea player Emmanuel Petit has publicly criticized the recent acquisitions of Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo, suggesting that their motivations for joining the club were primarily financial. Petit expressed his disappointment in the midfielders’ summer transfer decisions, asserting that their choices lacked a strategic sporting rationale.
Lavia and Caicedo have made headlines with their significant moves to Stamford Bridge, with transfer fees of £55 million and £115 million, respectively. These transfers garnered attention, particularly because Liverpool, a club participating in European competitions, was also pursuing both players.
In an interview with BettingSites, Petit indicated that Chelsea’s offers appeared attractive primarily due to financial incentives (as reported by FourFourTwo):
“Caicedo signed for Chelsea when he was linked with Liverpool, just like Romeo Lavia. I’m not going to say anything foolish, but we all know why they went to Chelsea. Sportingly, the best decision right now would be to go to Liverpool.”
“If I were Caicedo or Lavia, I would choose Liverpool over Chelsea because I don’t see a clear plan for what is happening at Chelsea. Thirty-five players? Come on. How many players do they need? It’s going to be a nightmare just like what happened last season.”
Petit argued that Liverpool would have been a more fitting destination for both players, especially in the case of Caicedo, who could have reunited with his former Brighton teammate, Alexis Mac Allister.
Petit concluded by stating:
“For me, the answer is straightforward. If you ask why Caicedo and Lavia decided to join, the answer is simply money. Money plays a role for both the clubs and the players.”
Caicedo and Lavia are expected to feature in Chelsea’s upcoming Premier League match against Luton Town on Friday, August 25.
