During the post-match celebrations, Rubiales was seen hugging and kissing Spanish player Jenni Hermoso on the lips. Hermoso later stated that she did not enjoy the kiss.
Rubiales also made a bizarre speech in the dressing room, announcing that the players would be given a paid trip to Ibiza and joking that he would marry Hermoso on the island.
Additionally, Rubiales was criticized for celebrating Spain’s win by making inappropriate gestures in the stands alongside Queen Letizia.

The RFEF released a statement on Hermoso’s behalf, explaining that the kiss was a spontaneous and mutual gesture of affection and gratitude due to the joy of winning the World Cup.
Spain’s Women’s World Cup victory was marred by a dispute with coach Jorge Vilda, who had been managing the team since 2015. Several high-profile players had refused to play under Vilda, citing issues with the conditions in camp compromising their mental and physical health. However, despite the dispute, Spain won the tournament.
The victory has raised concerns that Vilda’s position as manager may become unimpeachable, despite accusations made against him by some of his players.
