What must change for Chelsea to sign Enzo Fernandez
It’s time for a football Q&A. As the January transfer window approaches its final hours, Adam Newson, London’s leading Chelsea journalist, provides an update on everything happening at Stamford Bridge.
Even though the January transfer season is quickly coming to an end, Chelsea is still in negotiations with Benfica over a potential club-record trade for Argentine sensation Enzo Fernandez.
Chelsea has just over 24 hours to come to an arrangement with the Portuguese powerhouses, who are insistent that Fernandez won’t leave until his £105 million release clause is fully fulfilled by tomorrow night at 11pm.
The Chelsea hierarchy, which is still optimistic that a deal can be reached, has never been willing to accept that kind of organisation. It is believed that a guaranteed £105 million bid was made today, although the payment would be done in multiple instalments. If Fernandez moves to Stamford Bridge, something has to give.
