Addressing Cucurella’s Post-Match Red Card
Following Chelsea’s 2-1 triumph over Brentford, head coach Enzo Maresca spoke about Marc Cucurella’s controversial red card, issued late in the game.
“I didn’t see the second yellow card,” Maresca admitted. “The referee mentioned it was for bad attitude. There are definitely areas where we can improve.”
Cucurella’s dismissal came after a clash with Brentford’s Kevin Schade, and it means the defender will miss Chelsea’s upcoming Premier League clash with Everton.
Evaluating Chelsea’s Defensive Performance
Turning his attention to the team’s defensive efforts, Maresca remained optimistic, highlighting Chelsea’s strong record at the back.
“Only two teams have conceded fewer goals than us,” he pointed out. “Defensively, we’re performing well. Of course, we’d prefer to keep a clean sheet, but there’s always another team trying to score.”
Defence: A Pillar of Chelsea’s Success
Despite conceding a late goal against Brentford, Chelsea’s solid defence has been a key factor in their rise up the Premier League standings. Their disciplined backline has contributed to the team’s current position, just two points shy of leaders Liverpool.
As the season progresses, Chelsea will aim to maintain their defensive resilience while addressing areas for improvement, especially as they prepare to face Everton without Cucurella.
