Chelsea cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory over West Ham, moving up to second in the Premier League table. However, the result on the pitch wasn’t the only reason for celebration. For the first time this season, co-owners Behdad Eghbali and Todd Boehly were spotted together at the London Stadium, giving fans a much-needed morale boost. The two had previously been rumored to be considering a split, with each potentially buying out the other’s shares.
Boehly, who has often been seen as the face of Chelsea’s ownership group, has reportedly been concerned about the club’s current direction, particularly regarding recruitment decisions. Meanwhile, Eghbali remains committed to the project, confident that the significant investment in young talent will pay dividends in the long term.
Both businessmen have found success in their own ventures, but their joint appearance at the West Ham match will likely calm any fears of instability. It’s a positive signal for fans, the manager, and his coaching team.
Head coach Enzo Maresca, who has remained focused on the team’s performance despite the behind-the-scenes developments, recently addressed his relationship with the club’s owners. Speaking ahead of their upcoming match against Bournemouth, Maresca said: “I spoke with Todd after the City game, and I had a conversation with Behdad a few days ago. There are no issues at all, and I’m just focused on the pitch, which is where my job is.”
According to sources from LondonWorld, it was Eghbali who pushed for the managerial change last summer, leading to Mauricio Pochettino’s departure and opening the door for Maresca to leave Leicester and take charge at Chelsea.
Maresca has had a fantastic start at the helm, with the team now sitting second in the league after just five games. Considering the doubts surrounding his appointment, his early success has surprised many, and his leadership has quickly silenced critics.
One fan wrote: “Sancho for Mount is daylight robbery.”
Another said: “It took Jadon Sancho two games to match the same amount of G/A Mount has for United. Sancho has been at Chelsea for a month, while Mount has been at United for over a year.”
A third added: “We paid £35 million more for Mount than Chelsea paid us for Sancho.”
And a fourth stated: “Sancho left Manchester United and walked straight into Chelsea’s starting XI.”
The deal for Sancho between United and Chelsea is believed to be between £20 and £25 million.
The Athletic claim that he took a major pay cut from his United contract in order to make the move, with his soon-to-be former club set to make a significant loss from his sale.
