“We sign him by mistake” – Chelsea will struggle to sell €45m “ghost” they made a huge mistake signing him
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! There was a reason we didn’t want to sign João Félix permanently—and a reason we preferred to sell him outright rather than loan him out in January.
While the forward is capable of moments of brilliance, that’s all they ever are—just moments. He struggles to deliver consistently, whether within a single game or across a full season. That’s why he has bounced from club to club and now finds himself on loan at AC Milan just six months after we signed him for around €45 million.
His debut goal for Milan sparked excitement, with immediate talk of making the move permanent. However, the enthusiasm has quickly faded. Italian outlet TMW recently labeled him a “ghost” after he was virtually invisible in Milan’s defeat to Bologna. His team has won just two of the seven games he has started since joining—a worrying trend that makes it highly unlikely Milan will pay to keep him in the summer.
The decision to sign Félix was baffling for several reasons. Chief among them is the fact that we had him on loan just two years ago and saw firsthand that he wasn’t up to the required standard. To then sign him permanently despite that knowledge was nothing short of reckless.
To make matters worse, we sold Conor Gallagher—who could have been an invaluable asset this season—in an attempt to balance the books for that deal.
Now, it seems we’re paying the price. With no obvious buyers lined up, we may be forced to loan him out again and watch his market value continue to decline.
