In the UEFA Champions League last-16 second-leg against Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea needed to win in order to progress to the quarter-finals. Dortmund had secured a narrow lead in the first leg, thanks to Karim Adeyemi’s goal in the 63rd minute.

However, they started the second leg strongly and had a goal by Kai Havertz disallowed for offside. They continued to create chances, but Kalidou Koulibaly missed a clear-cut opportunity.
Just before half-time, Chelsea managed to level the aggregate score, as Raheem Sterling scored a goal. Ben Chilwell’s cross found Sterling, who initially miskicked the ball, but managed to fire it into the roof of the net past Alexander Meyer. This was Sterling’s 27th goal in the Champions League and his seventh goal for Chelsea.
The goal was celebrated enthusiastically by co-owner Todd Boehly, who was captured by TV cameras high-fiving his companions inside the box at Stamford Bridge. Boehly appeared relieved and pleased, shaking his head slightly as if to say “Finally!” after Chelsea’s missed chances earlier in the game.
