Benoit Badiashile – An accomplished outing from the young Frenchman who defended well overall despite looking initially a bit unsure of Mo Salah. The 21-year-old is hinting at a promising partnership with Silva. 7.
Marc Cucurella – A very solid performance on his return to the side against one of the league’s stiffest challenges. 7.
Jorginho – Looked more comfortable when accompanied by Lewis Hall and Conor Gallagher but perhaps did not influence the game enough on the ball with Hall taking the bulk of touches when he was on the pitch. 6.
Lewis Hall – Took a little while for the 18-year-old to settle and ran into trouble a couple of times but continued to show his ability to draw fouls. Not the youngster’s most impressive outing but a big learning experience. 5.
Conor Gallagher – Looked to have a crucial role in Chelsea’s gameplan alternating between the midfield three and a No.10 position and provided an impressive intensity of pressing. Looking much more comfortable in Chelsea’s starting XI. 7.
Hakim Ziyech – Started the game in a front three but had some wingback duties to undertake in a flexible Chelsea formation. Was wayward in his early passing but was still involved among Chelsea’s better play throughout the game. 6.
Kai Havertz – Unfortunate to find his early strike ruled out for offside but set a good tone in the opening half in harrying and hassling Liverpool’s defence and provoked opportunities. His influence waned as the game went on. 6.
Mason Mount – Mount didn’t always exhibit the confidence you would hope, particularly when laying the ball to Hall instead of shooting himself in the first half but produced an excellent first time pass to Ziyech in the second period. Found more freedom in the second period. 5.
Substitutes
Mykhailo Mudryk – It didn’t take long for the Ukraine international to show the explosive trickery he can offer Chelsea. Inevitably ensured that James Milner earned a quick yellow card but the former Shakhtar Donetsk star should have hit the target in the 72nd minute rather than taking a touch. Very exciting. 7.
Cesar Azpilicueta – Produced a crucial headed clearance in the final five minutes. Kept the Blues defensively solid on his 500th Chelsea appearance. 6.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – Had few opportunities to make his presence felt after entering the pitch. 5.
Carney Chukwuemeka – Threatened some good combinations with Mudryk but struggled to stay on his feet. 5.
