Watch Kai Havertz goal in Chelsea vs Liverpool match disallowed for offside by VAR
During Chelsea star Kai Havertz’s close-range finish against Liverpool in the Premier League match at Anfield, the goal was disallowed for offside.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! In the opening five minutes of Chelsea’s crucial match against Liverpool, Kai Havertz thought he had given his team the lead. Both teams were looking to get back into the top four of the Premier League.
Thiago Silva pounced on the loose ball after Mason Mount’s early corner caused havoc in the Liverpool area and poked a goal-bound shot that deflected off the post. The fastest to react was Havertz, who prodded home from a short distance away.
The linesman initially kept his flag down because Graham Potter thought his team had a key early lead. Havertz was found to be offside on Silva’s shot after VAR started to review the goal.
It was initially unclear why the decision was modified, but it is now clear why the German striker was flagged as being offside despite Silva not attempting to find a teammate with the shot.
Silva’s shot came back off the post, but Havertz’s foot was in front of the ball because James Milner had kept him onside. Alisson would have been onside because it wouldn’t have been considered a pass if he had saved it.
Even though it was debatable, Steve McManaman supported the commentary choice. “But Liverpool were fortunate, weren’t they? James Milner set Thiago Silva onside, but Kai Havertz was deemed offside when Silva struck the ball against the post. The choice is sound, “said he.
