Watch how Hakim Ziyech reacted to his failed transfer to PSG
Paris Saint-Germain is still attempting to bring back the Chelsea loan signing of Hakim Ziyech.
Hakim Ziyech, an attacker for Chelsea, was left stranded in France on Tuesday night because a computer system failure was about to jeopardise his loan deal with Paris Saint-Germain. The deal was later delayed by a number of paperwork issues between the two clubs and the Ligue de Football Professionnel, the main governing body of French football. The Blues had given the Moroccan their approval to travel across the Channel on Monday night ahead of a potential medical with the Ligue 1 champions.
Prior to the dry loan, Ziyech underwent medical exams in Paris. However, the move struck a block late in the day when the Blues and PSG exchanged and uploaded documentation. Ziyech has started Chelsea’s last two Premier League games.
It’s believed that the LFP’s system also crashed, preventing them from completing the transfer by the French deadline of 10 p.m.
According to various French sources, Chelsea may have supplied the incorrect documentation three times, significantly disrupting the administrative process.
Even if the loan agreement presently appears to be off, PSG will attempt to finalise Ziyech’s arrival to reinforce their roster for the remainder of the season as they pursue their first-ever Champions League title on Wednesday.
To the dismay of the 29-year-old, although PSG and Chelsea signed all of the contracts on time, they were not formally registered before the transfer window shut.
Despite the end of the January transfer window, there is still a slim chance the deal can be revived and completed on Wednesday, but the LFP will need to grant an appeal from PSG.
The legal committee of LFP will convene at 9:30 AM UK time to review and evaluate the sequence of events before deciding whether to approve the action or not.
The Qatar World Cup sensation was coveted by Newcastle, Everton, Aston Villa, AC Milan, Roma, and RB Leipzig, but Ziyech only wanted to sign with PSG.
The Moroccan international will be loaned to the French powerhouses for a nominal sum, and if the move is approved, he will play out the balance of the current season at Parc des Princes before heading back to west London.
