After a poor run of results, Chelsea desperately needed a big win to lift spirits—and they got exactly that with a 4-0 victory over Southampton.
According to chelsea.news, A newly released training video shows a squad that looks far happier than they did just a week ago, when they were coming off three consecutive defeats. The improved mood reflects the boost in confidence following their dominant performance.
In recent weeks, some new faces have also joined the group. Mathis Amougou, who arrived on January’s transfer deadline day, has now made his debut with a brief cameo as a substitute. Although primarily a defensive midfielder, Amougou showcased his shooting ability in training, firing in an impressive right-footed strike that surely caught the eye of manager Enzo Maresca.
When Amougou first signed, Maresca indicated that he wasn’t initially part of the first-team plans. However, after earning some game time and continuing to impress in training, the coach may have to reconsider his stance.
Another player who made his Chelsea debut on Tuesday was academy product Shim Mheuka. He has also stood out in training and is being integrated into the first-team setup, particularly in the absence of Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu due to injury.
Both Amougou and Mheuka play in positions where Chelsea currently lack depth. While they may not be in line for a starting spot just yet, they could see more minutes, especially in the second leg of the Conference League tie—provided Chelsea secures a strong result in the first leg against Copenhagen next week.
