Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Chelsea played a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge as Frank Lampard’s side failed to secure back-to-back wins. Although the Blues appeared more dominant in the second half, they could not secure all three points against a spirited Forest team.
Edouard Mendy started for the first time in the Premier League since November’s 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United at St. James’ Park. However, things did not begin well for the Senegalese goalkeeper as he was responsible for Forest’s opening goal in the 14th minute. Meanwhile, N’Golo Kante was absent from the matchday squad due to a groin injury. With his current contract ending this summer, it remains unclear whether he will continue playing for Chelsea. Raheem Sterling scored a brace sandwiched between Taiwo Awoniyi’s goals for Steve Cooper’s team, resulting in a draw in west London.
Chelsea dominated the early possession, with Forest attempting to counter-attack. Benoit Badaishile performed well in his duels with Taiwo Awoniyi, continuing his form from the victory over Bournemouth. Lewis Hall impressed at left-back, dealing with Serge Aurier’s threat as both Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella were unavailable due to injuries. Noni Madueke continued to beat his opponents, but his final product was lacking, and Chelsea struggled to capitalize on their early dominance.
Forest took the lead after Taiwo Awoniyi scored by heading the ball past Mendy from Renan Lodi’s cross. The Senegalese goalkeeper failed to save the ball and took out Thiago Silva in the process, leaving the goal empty for Awoniyi to score. Chelsea was unable to find an equalizer before half-time, and Mateo Kovacic had to be substituted due to an injury, with his season possibly over. Joao Felix had the best chance of the half, but Keylor Navas made an excellent save.
Forest was unlucky not to double their lead when Moussa Niakhate missed a golden opportunity to score from a corner. Raheem Sterling equalized for the Blues, firing the ball past Navas from close range, and grabbed his brace after sitting down Felipe before curling a shot into the far corner, giving Chelsea a 2-1 lead. Awoniyi scored again with a header at the back post after Chelsea failed to clear the ball from a corner, and the Forest striker sneaked in behind Hall to equalize.
Paul Tierney made several decisions against Chelsea, making him the villain of the game, which ended with both teams sharing points.
Edouard Mendy’s return to the starting lineup was disappointing as he failed to prove himself worthy of starting ahead of Kepa Arrizabalaga. Meanwhile, Trevoh Chalobah was exceptional, providing the assist for Sterling’s first goal and posing a constant threat on the right, while Thiago Silva had a good performance despite conceding twice. Benoit Badiashile was not as outstanding as his previous game against Bournemouth but was still effective. Lewis Hall’s lack of concentration led to Forest’s equalizer in the second half. Mateo Kovacic’s injury cut short his game, and Enzo Fernandez’s passing was impressive, though he struggled to create many chances from midfield. Conor Gallagher displayed energy without producing significant results, while Noni Madueke was less effective than he was against Bournemouth. Joao Felix had difficulty against the three Forest center-backs, failing to convert his only clear chance.
