‘Very disrespectful’ – 20-year-old Chelsea loanee slammed after what he’s just done
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Union Berlin has taken the decision to suspend forward David Datro Fofana for a week, following an incident during their Champions League match against Napoli. In the game, Fofana notably declined to shake hands with his coach, Urs Fischer, after being substituted in the 70th minute of their 1-0 defeat to Napoli. The two briefly made contact as Fischer attempted to greet Fofana, resulting in an uncomfortable moment. This marked Union Berlin’s ninth consecutive loss across all competitions.
Union Berlin’s spokesperson, Christian Arbeit, confirmed that Fofana has since offered an apology to both Fischer and the sporting director, Oliver Ruhnert. Fischer expressed his hope that Fofana would learn from this incident, emphasizing the importance of accepting decisions.
As a consequence of this suspension, Fofana will undergo separate training sessions away from the team and will not be considered for selection in the upcoming Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen on Saturday or the German Cup fixture against Stuttgart on Tuesday. However, he is expected to rejoin the team starting from the following Wednesday.
Fofana has also taken to social media to express his regrets, posting an apology on Instagram. In his statement, he clarified that the gesture was not intended as a reflection of his attitude. Instead, it was a manifestation of his frustration, as he had a strong desire to remain on the field and contribute positively to the team’s performance.
Notably, Fofana, a 20-year-old forward from Ivory Coast, was transferred to Chelsea from Norwegian club Molde in January. However, during the last season, he had limited opportunities, making just four appearances for the English club. In July, he was sent on loan to Union Berlin but has struggled to find the back of the net, with no goals in his 11 appearances for the German team, who are making their debut in the Champions League this season. His last competitive goal dates back almost a year to November 13, while playing for Molde in the Norwegian league.
