Despite Chelsea’s interest this summer, rumors claim that Cristiano Ronaldo is prepared to leave Manchester United and take a “substantial pay decrease.”
The 37-year-old is reportedly being considered by Thomas Tuchel’s squad this summer.
However, Manchester United could be reluctant to trade to a division opponent considering that Chelsea will be trying to replace Romelu Lukaku in the summer.
The Belgian signed a loan agreement to join Inter Milan again for the 2022–2023 season.
Ronaldo had already been offered to the Blues when Todd Boehly and super agent Jorge Mendes met to discuss moves this summer.
Boehly apparently went to the meeting out of respect for the other party, but it now appears that his team is looking into signing Ronaldo.
Boehly and fellow director Behdad Eghbali are rumored to be intrigued in the possibility of bringing the player to Chelsea because of his status in the league.
The Independent’s Miguel Delaney claims that Ronaldo’s position has finally been revealed and that the Portuguese star may be willing to take a wage reduction.
Ronaldo is willing to accept a “substantial pay decrease,” according to the source, in order to join a Champions League contender. The game, which Chelsea won in 2021, or at the very least a large domestic prize, is what he wants to strive to win.
Ronaldo is motivated mostly by this as he prepares to leave Manchester because United isn’t currently a Champions League participant.
The story states that Ronaldo’s contract pays him more than £500,000 per week, although other sources suggest that it may really be above £700,000.
Ronaldo would be prepared to significantly lower his demands in order to join a squad that can compete at the highest level.
His top three transfer targets this summer are Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain. Uncertainty surrounds Tuchel’s desire to lure Ronaldo to Stamford Bridge after the club’s record-breaking purchase of Lukaku was just offloaded following a disappointing season.
The last decision in the transfer window will be made by the German after Petr Cech and Marina Granovskaia departed the squad.
If the head coach decides he wants to sign Ronaldo this summer, it is unclear how a deal would be completed with Manchester United, who are reluctant to sell to a domestic competitor since they want to compete in the Champions League.
