A Dominant Win Against Shamrock Rovers
Chelsea continued their perfect run in the Conference League group stage with a commanding 5-1 victory over Shamrock Rovers at Stamford Bridge. Marc Guiu was the star of the night, netting a first-half hat-trick, while Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Marc Cucurella added to the tally.
Enzo Maresca once again rotated his squad for the European clash, with only Noni Madueke and Marc Cucurella retaining their spots from the Premier League win over Brentford. Dewsbury-Hall seized his rare opportunity in midfield alongside Cesare Casadei, delivering a solid performance capped by his second goal for Chelsea.
Maresca Keeps Door Open for Dewsbury-Hall Departure
Despite Dewsbury-Hall’s impressive showing, questions about his future at Chelsea persist. The 26-year-old has struggled for game time since his £30m summer move from Leicester City, playing fewer than 60 minutes in the league this season. This lack of involvement has fueled speculation about a potential exit in January.
Speaking after the game, Maresca didn’t rule out a departure for the midfielder but praised his work ethic and contributions.
“Unfortunately, I cannot say that [he is not for sale],” Maresca admitted during the post-match press conference.
“Not only about Kiernan but the whole squad. When the window is open, anything can happen. We are very happy with the way Kiernan is working and his performance.”
The manager emphasized that while the club doesn’t want to lose players, some departures come down to individual desires for more playing time.
“We don’t want one of our players to leave. It is sometimes a question for them because they are not happy and want to play more. It is a matter of agreement between the club and the player. We are happy with Kiernan.”
What January Could Hold for Dewsbury-Hall
While a £30m signing leaving just six months after joining seems unlikely, the January transfer window often brings unexpected moves. Dewsbury-Hall’s situation highlights the challenges of breaking into Chelsea’s highly competitive squad.
As the window approaches, it remains to be seen if offers for the midfielder will materialize and whether he will push for a transfer. For now, his performance against Shamrock Rovers serves as a reminder of his potential, even as his long-term future at Stamford Bridge hangs in the balance.
