Chelsea Miss Out on Signing Victor Osimhen on Deadline Day
Failed Attempt to Secure Napoli’s Star Striker
Chelsea’s hopes of signing Napoli’s Victor Osimhen on the final day of the summer transfer window have ended in disappointment. Despite being heavily linked with the Nigerian striker throughout deadline day, the deal has reportedly fallen through.
The Sticking Point in Negotiations
According to journalist Miguel Delaney, Chelsea and Osimhen were unable to reach an agreement due to a significant difference in wages, with the two parties reportedly £100,000-a-week apart during contract talks. This wage gap ultimately led to Chelsea missing out on the 25-year-old Serie A star.
Last-Minute Efforts and Missed Opportunities
Journalist Kaveh Solhekol reported that Chelsea made one final push to sign Osimhen as the deadline approached. However, with just 20 minutes left before the transfer window closed, the club hadn’t received a response, forcing them to walk away from the deal. Fabrizio Romano also confirmed that Chelsea’s representatives have now left Naples, signaling that the pursuit of Osimhen is officially over.
A Missed Opportunity for Chelsea
Despite making several exciting signings during the summer, Chelsea’s failure to secure a top-tier No. 9 is a significant setback. Osimhen, with his impressive goal-scoring record, would have been an ideal addition to the squad, filling a crucial gap in the team.
Now, the pressure remains on Nicolas Jackson to be the main goal threat, with 18-year-old Marc Guiu as the backup option. This situation could force Chelsea to rely on Joao Felix or Christopher Nkunku as a false nine if Jackson faces any injury issues, which leaves the club vulnerable in the striking department. Missing out on Osimhen feels like a major misstep for Chelsea as they head into the new season.
