“Try this new formation next season”, Tuchel was advised
Conor Gallagher, a returning Chelsea midfielder, is expected to be a bright spot for the team this season, maybe in a new-look system.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!According to journalist Dean Jones, the 22-year-old might be a key component of Thomas Tuchel’s plans if he decides to introduce a new formation next season.
Chelsea has frequently used three centre backs in its lineups, limiting them to only two central midfielders at any given time.
This rivalry for spots might be a disincentive for any youthful alternatives, although Gallagher has excelled enough during his loan term with Crystal Palace to apparently be on Tuchel’s radar for next season.
The 22-year-route old’s to a starting position might also be facilitated by a system overhaul, a situation that the German is said to be warming to.
Tuchel, according to Jones, is being pushed to adapt to a 4-3-3 style, which should bring out the best in both Gallagher and Mount.
Mount has already established himself as a key first-team player at Stamford Bridge, but in a front three role as a fluid attacking force rather than in a deeper midfield role.
TCC’s Opinion
Although the two have never played together in the club’s first squad, they have several attributes that may make them valuable members of a midfield three.
Mount has been crucial to Chelsea’s offensive production, but shifting him to midfield might open up a spot for a new acquisition like Ousmane Dembele or Raheem Sterling.
Work-rate is one of the characteristics they have in common. Gallagher had the most mileage travelled in the league, whereas Mount was still covering a lot of territory in extra time in the FA Cup final after a long season.
The conundrum would be deciding which of Chelsea’s present cops would best complement the pair, with Jorginho’s ability to hold possession balanced against Kovacic and Kante’s transitioning abilities.
Tuchel should presumably make his decision dependent on the opponent, with certain games necessitating a more aggressive strategy and others requiring a more patient one.
