Todd Boehly’s first five words after Chelsea confirm ‘world class’ Mauricio Pochettino as manager
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Todd Boehly has expressed his satisfaction with the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino as the new manager of Chelsea, following an extensive search for Graham Potter’s replacement. Chelsea confirmed the news of Pochettino’s appointment on a two-year deal, which will commence on July 1 and extend until 2025.
Over the past two months, Pochettino engaged in positive discussions with the club’s ownership and hierarchy, ultimately securing the position as Potter’s permanent successor. Frank Lampard’s interim managerial role concluded after Chelsea’s 1-1 draw against Newcastle.
Lampard struggled to achieve favorable results during his return to the club following Potter’s departure. Pochettino’s primary objective will be to guide Chelsea back to their competitive form, contending for trophies and securing qualification for the Champions League, following a disappointing 2022/23 season.
In an interview with Chelsea’s official website, Boehly stated, “The sporting team conducted a diligent and thoughtful process that the board is proud of. We are delighted that Mauricio will be joining Chelsea. Mauricio is a world-class coach with an outstanding track record. We are all looking forward to having him on board.”
Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, co-sporting directors of Chelsea, added, “Mauricio’s experience, standards of excellence, leadership qualities, and character will serve Chelsea Football Club well as we move forward. He is a winning coach, who has worked at the highest levels, in multiple leagues and languages. His ethos, tactical approach, and commitment to development all made him the exceptional candidate.”
