Todd Boehly give update on Mason Mount’s contract decision after Chelsea faces negotiation problems
Todd Boehly, a co-owner of Chelsea, needs to concentrate on extending a number of current players’ contracts at Stamford Bridge before the summer transfer window.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Mason Mount, a star for Chelsea, has a deal that runs out at Stamford Bridge in 2024, and talks to extend it have recently stagnated.
Particularly since Graham Potter took over for Thomas Tuchel as manager of Chelsea, the English midfielder has been one of the season’s standout players. Mount was selected for Gareth Southgate’s England team and will now go to Qatar for the World Cup. Mount has made eight goal contributions in 21 appearances.
The Blues entered the World Cup break having suffered four straight losses in all competitions and having already been eliminated from the Carabao Cup in the third round after becoming runners-up the previous season. Graham Potter’s team is now seventh in the Premier League standings, eight points below the top four after the defeat to Newcastle on Saturday.
Mount apologised to Chelsea’s supporters on Instagram for the team’s recent bad performances and outcomes following Chelsea’s disappointing 1-0 loss at St. James’ Park. We haven’t performed up to the standard that Chelsea expects of us, the England international wrote.
“You deserve better from us, everyone. We immediately return to it after the World Cup and push ourselves to a greater level. We have the nation’s best supporters, and we’ll do our best to make you happy this season. MM.”
Mount certainly cares about the team and the supporters, but his future at Stamford Bridge is still up in the air as contract negotiations drag on. The great midfielder, 23, is still anticipated to follow Reece James’ lead and sign a sizable new contract to stay with Chelsea for the foreseeable future since Todd Boehly is eager to lock down the star midfielder to a new term.
Following the World Cup, Chelsea plans to resume contract talks with Mount after experiencing a snag in the process, according to 90min. According to what is known, there are no significant disagreements in the talks, and Chelsea and Mount are still hopeful that a deal will be reached on an extension.
Although there is little difference between the parties’ requests, progress has been slow, unlike with James’ contract extension. As a result, the club and player have now agreed to delay any conversations until Mount returns from Qatar. Mateo Kovacic, Christian Pulisic, and Edouard Mendy are all anticipated to sign new contracts with the club, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek being the next player in line.
Chelsea is also talking about the futures of Jorginho and N’Golo Kante, two midfielders whose contracts expire at the end of the current campaign. Barcelona is rumoured to be interested in both midfielders during the January transfer window. The Blues duo will be open to pre-contract negotiations with foreign teams in the coming year, which might scuttle any prospective contract renewal discussions.
