According to sources, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has highlighted three important areas where the squad needs to improve this summer. The news comes ahead of a crucial summer for the German coach, who is aiming to rebuild his team.
The first step will almost certainly be a study of the 2021/22 season. The Blues started well in the league but slowed down, and their domestic cup hopes were dashed by Liverpool in two penalty shootout losses in the final.
After losing in the Champions League to Real Madrid, the team was forced to settle with a European Super Cup and a Club World Cup instead. Tuchel argued there is little time to recuperate despite the campaign has recently ended.
“The two best teams [Man City and Liverpool] enhance their teams and have very clear teams on which they grow,” the German coach stated following his side’s triumph against Watford. “It’s a rebuild that we need, and that, of course, makes it more difficult.”
The need for reinforcements has only grown as Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen are ready to depart the club as free agents. Tuchel looks to have some thoughts about where he wants to strengthen heading into the summer transfer season.
According to Fabrizio Romano of CaughtOffside, the Blues are looking for a new center-back, midfielder, and forward. Tuchel, on the other hand, is still waiting to meet with the new board to settle on names and a transfer plan.
The three categories stated would cover all bases, resolving present concerns as well as safeguarding any future ones, such as Jorginho and N’Golo Kante’s one-year contract expiration. Tuchel’s ability to attract the best candidates remains to be seen, especially with the club’s acquisition rumbling on before anything can be finalized.
