Several Chelsea players are expected to depart the club in the summer transfer window to start new chapters in their careers. The Blues are likely to spend a lot of money in order to replace the departing players, but they may save money in other areas as well.
The only confirmed departures as of this writing are Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen. However, they may be followed out the door by a slew of other players.
Chelsea have been linked with deals for Kepa Arrizabalaga, Cesar Azpilicueta, Marcos Alonso, Ross Barkley, Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner, and Romelu Lukaku. Of course, the club is unlikely to let all 10 of these players to depart, but even if a significant number of them do, substantial surgery is required.
Chelsea is expected to spend a lot of money in the summer transfer window, based on the exits. That might happen, but Thomas Tuchel also has options inside the club to save millions on alternatives.
football.london has identified some of Chelsea’s most intriguing loan players, all of whom had successful seasons in 2021-22. Let us know in the comments area below whether you agree with our conclusion.
On loan at Huddersfield Town, Levi Colwill has had a fantastic season. The Terriers’ 19-year-old defender made 29 appearances in the Championship and is expected to play in the play-off final against Nottingham Forest this weekend.
With Chelsea losing both Rudiger and Christensen, Tuchel has a strong argument for recalling Colwill next season. Watch how he performs in preseason and consider putting him in a back-three next season.
Colwill is attracting interest from a number of Premier League teams ahead of the summer transfer window, according to football.london. Chelsea cannot afford to repeat their mistakes with Fikayo Tomori and Marc Guehi. Colwill should be brought back.
Ian Maatsen Maatsen spent the 2012/13 season on loan at Coventry City in the Championship. In the second division, the young Dutchman appeared 39 times, scoring three goals and assisting on one.
The 20-year-old left-back had a strong season. He might return to Chelsea next season to provide cover for Ben Chilwell. Alonso appears to be on his way out of the club, while Emerson Palmieri’s future is still up in the air.
Gallagher, Conor
In the 2021/22 season, he was maybe the most intriguing Chelsea loanee. While on loan with Crystal Palace, Gallagher scored eight goals and provided three assists in the Premier League.
The Eagles have made it clear that they want to bring the 22-year-old midfielder back to Selhurst Park next season, but Chelsea may have other ideas. With Barkley on his way out and Kante and Jorginho’s futures in doubt, Gallagher’s return to Cobham might come at the perfect moment.
During his time in south London, the England international shown his goal-scoring potential, which Tuchel’s club has lacked. Over the next six months, there will undoubtedly be plenty of interest in Gallagher from other clubs, but Chelsea should do all possible to keep him.
Gilmour, Billy
The Scotland international was a member of a terrible Norwich City team that was relegated in the 2021/22 season. When Gilmour initially arrived at Chelsea in 2019, tremendous expectations were placed on the talented midfielder.
Chelsea still has great hopes for the Scot, but next season may be too soon for him. Another loan spell with a Premier League side may appear to be the ideal choice for Gilmour as he seeks additional first-team experience in the Premier League.
Armando Broja Broja had a fantastic season on loan with Southampton, proving his Premier League credentials. The Albanian scored six times in the Premier League for Southampton, and his achievements on the greatest platform drew a lot of attention.
Broja is coveted by a number of teams, including AC Milan, Inter Milan, Napoli, Newcastle United, West Ham United, and Southampton, according to GOAL. When it comes to the 20-year-old striker, Tuchel has a major decision to make, but there’s no harm in giving him a chance in the first team.
Tuchel’s point of view
Tuchel was questioned earlier this month about Chelsea’s loan players returning in the coming weeks. The head coach of the Blues stated: “Regardless, the loanees must return! That’s our right, and we’re extremely selfish about it.
“They return in order to score a point. We have a pre-season with them to see if they can play the part we want them to play. They are the members of our team. Whoever takes over the position must do everything possible to maintain the status quo.
“From the first day of pre-season, the race is on. In general, the clubs we’re looking at – the top two – bring quality from the outside as well. We all need to be very excellent at recruiting, scouting, and making decisions in order to sign the players that are the best fit, bring the mentality, mindset, and positional profile needed to develop the team. It’s at a very high level.”
