“This is what all blues have been waiting for” Chelsea are now leading the race to sign £93,000-a-week man who Drogba once called a ‘great striker’
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!According to Il Matino, Chelsea is now leading the race to secure the signature of Victor Osimhen from Napoli, surpassing their Premier League rivals.
Recent speculation surrounding the Nigeria international, who was once hailed as a “great striker” by Didier Drogba, has reportedly prompted Napoli to encourage Chelsea to make a bid.
Il Matino claims that Chelsea has emerged as the front-runners in the pursuit of Osimhen, ahead of other Premier League giants such as Manchester United and Liverpool. Representatives from all three English clubs have held meetings with the striker’s representatives.
This development, if true, is significant since Chelsea cannot offer Osimhen European football next season, unlike Erik ten Hag’s side at Ajax and Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool. Therefore, the financial package presented by Chelsea must be quite enticing for the 24-year-old, who currently earns £93,000-a-week at Napoli.
Since joining Napoli in 2020, Osimhen has risen to become one of Europe’s most formidable forwards. He scored an impressive 31 goals across all competitions last season, contributing to Napoli’s triumph in Serie A after a 33-year wait.
If Todd Boehly manages to secure this deal, it would undoubtedly please Mauricio Pochettino, as claimed by certain sources. Reports from 90min suggest that Osimhen is Pochettino’s primary striker target for the summer, and the Argentine coach is eager to work with the Nigerian talent at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea has long been in need of a true No.9 who can serve as a focal point and a prolific goal scorer. If the Blues are indeed leading the race to sign Osimhen, it is crucial for them to finalize the deal. His addition could make a significant difference in the 2023/24 campaign.
