Following the news of Pochettino’s imminent move to Chelsea, Tim Sherwood shared his thoughts on Todd Boehly’s decision during a live broadcast of Sky Sports Soccer Saturday.
The story revolves around Boehly, who has faced criticism since taking over from Roman Abramovich at Stamford Bridge, primarily due to his haphazard approach in the transfer market, resulting in over £600 million being spent on new signings in less than a year.
While Sherwood criticized the chaotic recruitment approach, he commended Boehly for hiring Pochettino. The 54-year-old stated, “They spent £600 million, and the squad has worsened. There needs to be a significant clear-out before they start bringing in new players.”
Sherwood emphasized that Pochettino should demand control over the team. He acknowledged the presence of capable individuals in Chelsea’s recruitment team but emphasized the importance of aligning their efforts with the manager’s preferred style of play.
Describing Pochettino’s attacking and high-energy football as captivating, Sherwood believes the Argentine manager will achieve positive results. He sees Pochettino’s appointment as a fantastic decision for Chelsea and expects him to fully embrace the club’s project.
The sentiment expressed by Sherwood is shared by many, including the belief that Pochettino possesses the skills necessary to restructure and improve Chelsea. It is worth noting that Pochettino encountered a similar situation when he joined Tottenham in 2014.

Back then, Tottenham were in the process of rebuilding their team, much like Chelsea is now, following a disjointed transfer window after receiving a substantial fee from Gareth Bale’s transfer. Pochettino gradually integrated players like Eriksen and Lamela while nurturing talents such as Harry Kane, Dele Alli, and Kyle Walker.
Considering the presence of promising talents like Mykhaylo Mudryk, Enzo Fernandez, Carney Chukwuemeka, Noni Madueke, and established world-class stars at Stamford Bridge, Pochettino will have plenty to work with.
