Under new ownership, Chelsea might have a busy summer transfer window.
Chelsea might see a lot of movement this summer, with six players who will need to be replaced if they depart. The bulk are regulars in Thomas Tuchel’s lineup, and some played in Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City at Stamford Bridge. The six persons are examined by Express Sport.
Rudiger, Antonio
Rudiger has been Chelsea’s finest defender and maybe their player of the season this season. He is expected to join Real Madrid on a free transfer when his contract expires.
Chelsea must find a replacement, but finding a player of his caliber might be tough. The German is a fan favorite, and his departure will be felt greatly.
Christensen, Andreas
Another player who will go away empty-handed. Christensen has made almost 30 appearances in all competitions this season despite not playing much recently.
As he prepares to join Barcelona, he will face Rudiger in the El Clasico next season. Tuchel stated at his news conference on Wednesday that Chelsea’s backline has to be strengthened.
Cesar Azpilicueta, the club captain, received a one-year contract extension in March after playing a set amount of games this season. Tuchel has revealed, though, that the Spaniard still wishes to depart this summer.
This season, Azpilicueta has played both right center-back and wing-back. Chelsea want a man who can cover for Reece James on occasion, therefore replacing him is critical.
Alonso Marcos
Alonso demonstrated why he is such a frustrating player against Leicester. Tuchel vented his frustrations from the touchline after he was at fault for James Maddison’s opening, but the wing-back subsequently equalized with a beautiful volley.
He may become the third Chelsea player to join Barcelona this summer. Tuchel would then need to sign a winger to fight with Ben Chilwell for a starting berth.
With his contract set to expire at the end of next season, Jorginho has been linked with a transfer to Juventus. He captained the Blues against Leicester, although he has been in and out of the team recently.
Tuchel cannot afford to let Jorginho leave without replacing him, especially with Saul Niguez returning to Atletico Madrid following his loan term and Ross Barkley expected to depart. Aurelien Tchouameni of Monaco has been mentioned.
Lukaku, Romelu
Lukaku’s club-record transfer has failed miserably. Chelsea are in need of a striker, and it looks that the Belgian is not suited to Tuchel’s style of play.
It beggars belief why he was signed for a whopping £97.5 million. If Chelsea can find a buyer for Lukaku, they will almost certainly acquire a new striker.
