Brazilian international and Chelsea centre back Thiago Silva responded to Brazil’s quarterfinal loss to Croatia on penalties.
Prior to Bruno Petkovic’s goal in the 117th minute, Neymar had given Brazil the lead in the game.
Rodrygo and Marquinhos were unable to convert any of Croatia’s four penalty kicks, assuring Zlatko Dalic’s team advanced to their second consecutive semi-final.
The Chelsea player added, shortly after the loss, “In football, we are prone to giving up a goal, regardless of the opposition on the other side.
“Croatia is a top-notch group. We might be able to focus a little bit more now. That kind of retaliation is not something we are used to. I believe we made a few mistakes.
“In the second ball that we lost, we provided both the aerial ball and the counterattack, which was all they needed at the time.
“And the goal went through the ground; it didn’t even come from the top. It’s challenging. However, despite the pain, life must go on. Although I’m incredibly pleased of the boys and what we’ve accomplished, football sadly requires it.
