“They have Double suspension” – Poch sends Nicolas Jackson and Malo Gusto message
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Mauricio Pochettino has shared his assessment of Nicolas Jackson and Malo Gusto after their disciplinary issues in Chelsea’s match against Aston Villa.
Following the clash, Pochettino had a clear message for Nicolas Jackson and Malo Gusto, both of whom faced suspensions due to incidents in the game. Jackson, the 22-year-old striker, received his fifth yellow card of the Premier League season, rendering him unavailable for Chelsea’s next English top-flight fixture against Fulham on October 2.
However, Jackson will still be eligible for selection in Chelsea’s Carabao Cup third-round match against Brighton on Wednesday, September 27. On the other hand, Malo Gusto faced a more severe consequence, being given a red card for a dangerous tackle on Lucas Digne just minutes after Jackson’s booking.
Gusto’s challenge took place near the touchline, resulting in a foul being called by the referee and an initial yellow card. However, VAR intervened swiftly, prompting an on-field review that escalated the punishment to a red card. This means Gusto will now serve a three-match suspension. After Chelsea’s loss to Villa, Pochettino shared his thoughts on the red card.
“It was in front of me, but I haven’t reviewed it. We need to trust the referee and VAR,” mentioned the Blues’ manager. When asked about the necessity of Gusto’s tackle, he emphasized, “It is our responsibility. I am not going to blame or make negative comments about Malo Gusto because sometimes things happen in football, and they affect the game.”
On Jackson, Pochettino said: “We were talking, we need to grow up like a team. Nico is young and is feeling the Premier League. Football is about winning but players when they are young need to learn. That is why we feel disappointed. We have too many situations like this.”
With the Senegal international out against Fulham, Pochettino may be left no choice but to look to Armando Broja, who has recently returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines. The Chelsea boss said: “Was good to see Broja after nine or ten months.
“He needs to build his confidence also. We are a young team in a process where they need to learn altogether. It is difficult to talk positives when you lose but I think we need to. We cannot hide, it is situation that disappoints all.”
