Chelsea’s Latest Squad Developments: New Faces and Surprising Moves
Changes in the Chelsea Lineup
Three Chelsea players have found themselves training with the club’s U21 squad, with one notable player being restricted from the first-team areas. Under the leadership of new manager Enzo Maresca, who took over from Mauricio Pochettino this summer, the Blues are gearing up for the 24/25 season with several fresh faces and some significant exits.
New Additions and Departures
Chelsea has been active in the transfer market, signing players such as Marc Guiu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Filip Jorgensen, Omari Kellyman, Aaron Anselmino, Renato Veiga, Caleb Wiley, and Tosin Adarabioyo. Meanwhile, Ian Maatsen, Lewis Hall, and Omari Hutchinson have left the club. Midfielder Conor Gallagher is on the verge of moving to Spanish La Liga side Atletico Madrid, and more departures could occur by month’s end.
Training with the U21 Team
According to The Telegraph, defender Trevor Chalobah has been barred from Chelsea’s first-team facilities. Strikers Armando Broja and Romelu Lukaku are also training with the U21 team alongside Chalobah.
The Telegraph report reveals, “Chalobah, apart from training with Chelsea’s development squad, has been excluded from the first-team building at the club’s Cobham training base. Another academy graduate, Armando Broja, together with Romelu Lukaku, is part of the senior player group with Chalobah, training alongside Chelsea’s younger players.”
Chalobah has been linked to moves to Aston Villa and Crystal Palace and reportedly declined a transfer to Nottingham Forest last summer. Chelsea has set a £25 million asking price for the defender.
Potential New Signing
Chelsea is reportedly close to securing another signing, having reached an agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers star Pedro Neto.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano shared on social media, “Pedro Neto has landed in London, with medical tests scheduled for Saturday as Chelsea’s new player. Neto will sign a contract valid until June 2030, with an option for an additional season. Chelsea sees him as a perfect fit for both wings, offering flexibility and talent to enhance their quality.”
