Roman Abramovich Hints at Possible Chelsea Return
Chelsea’s Struggles Since Abramovich’s Departure
Since Chelsea’s takeover by Todd Boehly, the club has yet to secure a major trophy, struggling to find stability under the new ownership. The transition from Roman Abramovich’s reign to Boehly’s era has been turbulent, with ongoing speculation about whether Chelsea could one day return to its former owner.

Former Russian striker Dmitry Bulykin believes that Chelsea needs Abramovich back if they are to reclaim their former glory. He argues that the Blues will not win another major championship unless the Russian businessman is allowed to repurchase the club.
“If Abramovich can be brought back, Chelsea will win one of the major trophies. Unfortunately, things cannot return to how they were, but that could change in the future if Roman Abramovich decides to fight back to win Chelsea and the team is not progressing.”
UK Government’s Controversial Handling of Chelsea Sale Funds
The UK government has come under criticism for failing to allocate the £2.5 billion that Abramovich received from the club’s sale. Nearly two years after the sale, members of the House of Lords’ European Affairs Committee have deemed it “incomprehensible” that the funds have yet to be spent on Ukraine, as originally intended.
Despite being sanctioned as one of seven Russian “pro-Kremlin” oligarchs, Abramovich was permitted to sell Chelsea under the condition that the proceeds would aid Ukrainian conflict victims. However, disagreements between Abramovich and the government over the allocation of funds have resulted in the money remaining locked in a UK bank account.
Abramovich’s Emotional Connection to Chelsea
Despite the challenges, Abramovich has hinted at a possible return to Chelsea. He recently expressed his continued passion for the club and his disappointment with its current form.
“I keep following Chelsea since the handover and I’m really not happy with the current form.”
Abramovich also reflected on his time at Stamford Bridge and the deep bond he shares with the club and its supporters.
“I hope that I will be able to visit Stamford Bridge one last time to say goodbye to all of you. It’s been a privilege of a lifetime to be part of Chelsea, and I’m proud of all our joint achievements. Chelsea and its supporters will always be in my heart.”
