“The only thing i don’t like about him” – Enzo Maresca shares one thing he didn’t like about Noni Madueke against Wolves
Noni Madueke Shines in Chelsea’s Win Over Wolves, But Maresca Sees Room for Improvement
Noni Madueke arguably delivered his best performance in a Chelsea shirt during their 6-2 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux. Scoring a hat-trick, Madueke played a crucial role in securing the three points that Chelsea desperately needed after their season-opening loss to Manchester City.

While pundits like Clinton Morrison praised Madueke for his excellent partnership with Cole Palmer, Chelsea’s manager, Enzo Maresca, wasn’t entirely satisfied with the winger’s performance. Although Madueke was instrumental in the win, Maresca pointed out one mistake that nearly cost the team.
Speaking to the BBC after the match, Maresca acknowledged Madueke’s strong overall performance but expressed concern over a free-kick the winger conceded in the first half. Wolves capitalized on that opportunity, which is something Maresca believes could have been avoided. “In the first 10 minutes, he had two chances and overall, he was very good,” Maresca said. “The only thing I didn’t like from Noni is the free-kick he gave away before half-time, and we can avoid that, especially against a team who are good from set-pieces.”
Madueke’s Impressive Contribution
Despite the free-kick mishap, Madueke’s performance was nearly flawless. The 22-year-old was a constant threat down the right flank, showing exactly what you want in a winger—pace, precision, and clinical finishing. His hat-trick not only redeemed his earlier mistake but also solidified his importance to the team.
With new signings like Pedro Neto and Joao Felix (who also scored in the match), Chelsea’s attack is brimming with talent. However, Madueke’s standout performance makes it hard for Maresca to overlook him, even with the rotation that will likely occur throughout the season as Maresca tries to keep all his forward players happy.
Madueke’s performance against Wolves might have been his best yet, but it also serves as a reminder that even in a stellar display, there’s always room for improvement.
