‘The most expensive’: Chelsea leading the race to sign ‘really quick’ 20-year-old attacker – journalist

Chelsea is currently leading the race to sign Montpellier forward Elye Wahi, according to journalist Fabrice Hawkins. He claims that Chelsea is the “most advanced club” in the pursuit of Wahi’s signature, despite having a reported £26 million offer for the 20-year-old turned down. Other clubs interested in Wahi include Paris Saint-Germain, West Ham United, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Fulham.
Although Chelsea already bolstered their attack with the signing of Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal earlier in the summer, they are reportedly considering their forward options for the future by targeting Wahi.
Wahi is recognized for his talent, particularly for his speed and proficiency in front of the goal. French footballer Bixente Lizarazu has described him as a quick and skillful player.
While Chelsea’s initial plan might have been to loan Wahi out after signing him, recent circumstances suggest that retaining him at Stamford Bridge could be a logical choice. With Christopher Nkunku facing a period of time on the sidelines and Armando Broja recovering from an injury, Chelsea’s forward options have been limited. While Chelsea could still pursue another first-team striker, Wahi might emerge as a potential option for Manager Mauricio Pochettino both in the short term and in the future.
