His chances of making that first-team squad have diminished however as Southampton is said to be close to signing Republic of Ireland international Gavin Bazunu from Manchester City, while veteran goalkeeper Willy Caballero is said to have agreed to a new one-year contract with the Club.
That gave the team the opportunity to pounce and give him a magnificent transfer to Stamford Bridge, where he would train with some of the top Premier League coaches and maybe advance to playing alongside some of the best players in the world of football.
Jim Fraser, director of young recruiting and assistant head of youth development at Chelsea, said on the club’s website: “We are delighted to welcome Eddie to the club.
He will be a part of our development group for the next season and is a skilled goalie with high potential.
The former New Forest Football Academy player wrote: “Just want to give a huge thanks to @southamptonfc for the last three and a half years in a post on his Instagram that was completed with red and white emojis.
especially the whole staff, the teammates, and the coaches who have contributed to the unforgettable experience.
“I have learned so much from everyone in the club, and it has been a fantastic trip. The next phase of my profession must now be considered. Boys, good luck!
