Kepa Arrizabalaga, the goalkeeper for Chelsea, has talked about how Graham Potter’s appointment has helped him rediscover his confidence.
Since Potter’s arrival, Chelsea has played seven games, and the 28-year-old has started all of them in goal. It doesn’t appear that will change any time soon.
Arrizabalaga has made a total of 18 saves over the course of the last five games while maintaining five straight clean sheets.
Although Edouard Mendy’s injured absence in September may have opened the door for his comeback to the club, his performance has allowed him to hold onto his spot.
Arrizabalaga asserted that it is not a coincidence that he has just started to appear more at ease.
The Spain international remarked, “I think every player this confidence, this push, and even more vital for a goalkeeper,” to Amazon Prime Video Sport.
“When you play [a number of matches] consecutively and have continuity…
When a goalkeeper isn’t on the field, there are many factors to be mindful of, including distance and crosses. It differs during training.
“At this point, I feel confident. I believe I’m playing well. I must therefore continue moving forward and working.
Goalkeepers typically have a harder time moving up the pecking order than outfielders because they don’t get as many opportunities.
The squad gains from Arrizabalaga’s return to form, especially given that he appears more at ease playing with the ball at his feet than Mendy.
The former Athletic Bilbao player has currently given Potter no reason to think about selecting a different goalkeeper.
