Billy Gilmour was steadily breaking into the Chelsea team under Frank Lampard, but he was hindered by a four-month injury layoff.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! He wasn’t utilized enough under Thomas Tuchel and had to depart the club on loan to Norwich.
The Canaries have already been demoted from the Premier League, so Gilmour’s time with the club hasn’t gone as planned.
Tony Cascarino, a former Chelsea striker, claims that Gilmour and Manchester United’s Brandon Williams have regressed since joining Norwich.
Cascarino told talkSPORT: “The boy Gilmour who came to Norwich didn’t perform particularly well at the club, and the supporters turned against him at the start of the season.”
“He’s a fantastic young footballer, but he doesn’t seem to have matured.”
“We often speak about young kids moving elsewhere and developing – even Williams from Man United – but this year they’ve gone backwards.”
“At Norwich, two players who came from large clubs have gone backwards.”
Indeed, Norwich’s quality has been dreadful throughout the season. Even the best players would have a hard time there.
“I understand it’s a different level,” Cascarino said when asked about the club’s quality. I’ve always said that goal scorers who score 20 in the Championship are unlikely to score 10 in the Premier League.
“I accept there is a quality drop-off, but Norwich’s drop-off is absurd.”
“It’s less than a goal per game, and if you score fewer than a goal a game, you’re definitely going down.”
