Chelsea’s streak of victories under Graham Potter came to an end this afternoon when the Blues fell to Brighton and Hove Albion 3-1.
We’re glad you’re here to see Graham Potter’s post-game news conference after Chelsea lost to Brighton and Hove Albion 3-1.
Potter, who left the Seagulls to take over at Stamford Bridge in lieu of Thomas Tuchel last month, led the Blues there unbeaten. The Brighton players constituted a threat, which the Chelsea head coach was aware of. He was unable to stop the home team from getting out to a fast start though.
Brighton went in front by two goals after only 15 minutes. Early on, Leandro Trossard scored to put the Seagulls ahead, then Ruben Loftus-Cheek added a second goal by deflecting a corner into his own goal and past Kepa.

Chelsea had their own opportunities. Robert Sanchez stopped Conor Gallagher from scoring, and Christian Pulisic was unable to convert the rebound. As the Blues looked for a way back into the game, Gallagher saw a lovely flicked header pushed beyond by the Brighton goalkeeper.

Just before halftime, Moises Caicedo passed the ball through to Pervis Estupinan, whose cross was deflected into his own goal by a defender named Trevoh Chalobah.
Chelsea needed a goal back early in the second half to give themselves hope after Edouard Mendy replaced the injured Kepa at halftime. And they succeeded when Kai Havertz powered a goal-scoring header from Gallagher’s exquisite ball into the Brighton penalty area.

Unfortunately for the Blues, that didn’t serve as the impetus for a stunning comeback, as Brighton held on to win their first match since Potter’s replacement, Roberto De Zerbi, took over. At the Amex Stadium, we are positioned to hear the head coach of Chelsea’s post-game reflections. Below, there will be live updates.
