Ruben Amorim opens door to Viktor Gyokeres joining Chelsea after what he’s just admitted as Man United boss

Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea squad is preparing to face Manchester United this Sunday afternoon. However, Ruben Amorim won’t be in the Red Devils’ dugout. Ruud van Nistelrooy will be managing United instead, as Amorim isn’t expected to take charge until late November, around the 24th.
Meanwhile, Maresca has a big decision to make regarding the left-back position, with Marc Cucurella looking like a strong candidate for a recall.
On the transfer front, Chelsea has received some promising news, with Amorim revealing his stance on a transfer target that could benefit the Blues.
The January window offers Chelsea a chance to bolster their squad further, and a key area needing reinforcement is the striker position. Currently, Nicolas Jackson’s support includes Joao Felix and Marc Guiu, neither of whom are natural No. 9s. Interestingly, Amorim’s recent comments suggest Chelsea could have a clearer path to securing Viktor Gyokeres, who had previously caught their eye.
Gyokeres, Sporting CP’s star forward, was linked with a move to Chelsea over the summer, with a reported price tag of around £58 million. Amorim addressed the speculation, stating, “I’m not going to pursue any Sporting player in January. My years at Sporting have been the best of my life, and I won’t forget that,” as reported by Fabrizio Romano.
Viktor Gyokeres is undeniably one of the world’s most in-form strikers, netting an impressive 20 goals in just 16 games this season, including a four-goal showcase against CF Estrela in Liga Portugal. Chelsea fans have been captivated by Gyokeres’ performances, with some comparing him to Diego Costa after a recent Champions League display.
Amorim’s decision not to target Gyokeres in January is significant, given his influence in shaping the forward’s rise to prominence. For Chelsea, this could be the green light they need to make a move.
As for Manchester United, they could certainly use a consistent goal-scorer. While Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund are promising young talents, they still lack the clinical edge needed in front of goal.
