Chelsea captain Reece James took to social media on Saturday morning, just hours ahead of their match against Nottingham Forest, to share a message with fans. The team is set to travel to Nottingham for a 5:30 pm kick-off, marking a crucial Premier League fixture for both sides.
Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea currently holds the seventh spot in the league, vying for a chance to qualify for European competitions. On the other hand, Nottingham Forest finds themselves in 17th place, engaged in a battle to avoid relegation. Depending on weekend results, their position in the top-flight could either be secured for another season or remain under threat.
In a tweet, Reece James dropped a significant hint that he may feature in Chelsea’s squad against Forest. Pochettino had mentioned in his pre-match press conference on Friday that James might be available for selection after being sidelined due to injury since December. His potential return would undoubtedly boost the team.
James wrote on X: “See you at 5:30 Blues.” Looking ahead, if James proves his fitness and returns to form, he should reclaim his place in the Chelsea starting lineup. However, Malo Gusto has performed admirably as James’ replacement at right-back throughout the season. The 20-year-old has impressed in his debut season for the Blues, tallying eight assists in 34 appearances.
There’s a valid argument for rotating between Gusto and James at right-back next season, considering the latter’s injury history. Alternatively, James could be utilized as a right-sided center-half, or Gusto could feature at left-back. The depth and versatility in these positions provide Pochettino with tactical flexibility as Chelsea aims for success in the upcoming campaign.
