Manchester City and Liverpool have dominated over the previous five years, but rivals like Manchester United, Tottenham, and Arsenal are already bringing in new players for the forthcoming campaign.
Paul Merson predicts Man City will win the league once more, but he also believes Chelsea might pose a danger if they make smart acquisitions this summer.
The top three finishers from the previous season will hold onto their positions, according to Merson.
“I think Manchester City will win the Premier League, but I have to admit it’s not as much of a foregone conclusion as some make it out to be,” Paul Merson said to Sportskeeda.
The addition of Erling Haaland is undoubtedly a huge help for Pep Guardiola, but Liverpool are still very much in the mix.
“Manchester City have lost at least 30 Premier League goals between the two with Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling gone, and it might prove to be a significant problem for them.”
On the other side, Liverpool’s biggest concern is that they lost an incredible talent in Sadio Mane, who throughout the years scored significant goals for them.
They’ll have to put their faith in Darwin Nunez to adjust as rapidly as Luis Diaz did, which is obviously a long shot given how easily the Colombian adapted to English football.
It’ll be competitive once more if Jurgen Klopp can get Nunez firing right away, but if that doesn’t happen, I believe Manchester City will take home the Premier League title.
With a few wise acquisitions, Chelsea might also be competing for the championship, but they’ll need to maintain their level of play for the length of 38 games. Raheem Sterling will provide them a huge boost because, as we’ve seen over the years for club and country, he’s a gifted footballer who can play anywhere across the frontline.
“He has my respect and, having thrived in the Premier League for Liverpool and Manchester City, should have no problem adjusting to Thomas Tuchel’s style at Chelsea.
I’d be surprised if anything different occurred. “Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea choose themselves as the top three in whatever order.”
