Kepa Arrizabalaga joined Chelsea from Athletic Bilbao for about £72 million in 2018, but the Spaniard has since lost his number one shirt to Edouard Mendy.
After spending the last two years as Chelsea’s backup goalkeeper, Thomas Tuchel has stated that Kepa wants to go this summer.
Chelsea would have to cut their losses and accept a sum of roughly £50 million for Kepa, with Newcastle reportedly keen.
Tuchel recently remarked about Arrizabalaga’s future, “It depends what he wants and what his goals are, but I know that we are extremely fortunate to have Edou [Mendy] and Kepa in our team.”
“I am certain that Kepa is unhappy with the circumstances, that he deserves to play more, and that he has the potential to be a solid number one.”
“He came in as the number one goalie, so it’s not easy.” I can tell you that he has always been a terrific team player and has never let anyone down.
“So, no, we didn’t have a discussion about that.” I know the goalkeepers’ coaches are having these discussions right now, so we’ll take our time with him.
“We have to think about what’s best, what the options are, and as a coach, I’m thrilled to have both good goalkeepers.” Let’s see.”
