In the pursuit of the 16-year-old prodigy, Chelsea outshined competition from Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund, successfully reaching an agreement for his transfer.
However, due to FIFA regulations, despite the agreement between Chelsea and Independiente del Valle, Paez will join the London-based club when he reaches the age of 18 in 2025.
“Now we must address the legal aspect. We cannot sign a contract due to Kendry’s age. The situation is becoming clearer and I can confidently say that Kendry will join Chelsea after two years,” Morales shared with El Canal Del Futbol.
“We received several offers for him, including Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United. However, Chelsea demonstrated the most significant interest. Officials and the team doctor visited to conduct some tests.”
Expanding further on Paez and the deal last month, Morales explained to Studio Futbol: “We have been discussing this matter for a while now, several months ago. Chelsea has expressed a specific interest, and an agreement has practically been reached between the parties involved.
“Legally, we are exploring the possibilities since he is only 15 years old, and FIFA prohibits these types of negotiations. We will be fortunate enough to enjoy his presence for at least two more years until he turns 18 and can make the move.
“We need to consider the legal aspect, and obviously, a transfer contract cannot be signed. Perhaps some sort of arrangement can be made, and that is what Chelsea is inquiring about with their league, federation, and FIFA in order to facilitate this unprecedented transfer in Ecuadorian football. We are confident it will be the first of many more.
“I am certain that Kendry will become a remarkable ambassador for all Ecuadorian players, extending to those who have the opportunity to make such a leap at such a young age. We must make the most of these moments and tournaments that people attend to enjoy, as he truly is an exceptional player and an outstanding individual.”
