Mauricio Pochettino fires back at Gary Neville in fresh response to Chelsea ‘bottlers’ claim
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has fired back at Gary Neville’s recent criticism, labeling his team as “blue billion-pound bottlers” after their 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final. Pochettino expressed his frustration with the continuous focus on Chelsea’s substantial £1 billion spending over the past two years.
Responding to Neville’s comments, Pochettino suggested a possible bias, saying, “He is Manchester United and wanted Liverpool to lose! That was a little bit of it. I don’t need to say anything more about what he said. I said before you can only get hurt when you are not sure about things that are true or not. But I think he was frustrated because he was disappointed with the result.”
Pochettino emphasized that the constant narrative around Chelsea’s spending is unfair and urged to move on from this perspective. He explained, “Always it’s Chelsea and it always appears ‘one billion,’ and you cannot fight against that idea. That is why we need to move on. When Chelsea loses, it is always because of, because of, because of [spending too much]. No, the circumstances of Chelsea are the circumstances of Chelsea.”
The manager highlighted the pressure put on players due to the high transfer fees, using the example of Enzo Fernandez. He argued that the media’s focus on the significant transfer amounts places undue pressure on young players, hindering their development. Pochettino defended his players, acknowledging their quality but insisting on the need for time for them to mature and handle the expectations associated with their transfers.
