Marcus Rashford sent warning to Jadon Sancho as Man Utd deal proposed
Marcus Rashford’s Future at Manchester United in Question
Speculation surrounding Marcus Rashford’s future at Manchester United has intensified following his omission from Ruben Amorim’s squad for the Manchester derby. While United’s dramatic 2-1 victory over City shifted attention from the 27-year-old forward’s absence, his recent comments about being “open” to leaving the club in 2025 have reignited transfer rumors.

According to ESPN, Borussia Dortmund is reportedly interested in acquiring Rashford on a loan deal, echoing their successful arrangement with Jadon Sancho last year. After a fallout with Erik ten Hag, Sancho returned to Dortmund in January 2024, where he rediscovered his form, helping the German side reach the Champions League final. Though Sancho’s resurgence didn’t lead to a United comeback, it paved the way for a permanent move to Chelsea. Rashford might consider a similar path to rejuvenate his career.
Dortmund holds a special place in Sancho’s career, as he repeatedly expressed his affection for the club during and after his loan spell. Upon leaving in June, he thanked Dortmund for their support, describing his return as a “homecoming” and reflecting on his early years at the club, where he became one of Europe’s most promising talents.
Rashford’s Struggles and Revival Under Amorim
Rashford’s form has been inconsistent over the past year and a half. However, since Amorim’s appointment, he has shown signs of improvement, scoring three of his four Premier League goals under the new manager. Despite this, Amorim’s emphasis on discipline and effort means Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho have been challenged to fight for their places.
Amorim made his expectations clear after Sunday’s win:
“Next week, next game, new life. They (Rashford and Garnacho) are fighting for their places, but for me, it’s important—the performance in training, the way you dress, the way you eat, the way you engage with teammates. Everything is important when we want to change a lot of things.”
Interest from Other Clubs
While Dortmund emerges as a realistic option, other clubs have also monitored Rashford. Arsenal had previously shown interest, but a January move seems unlikely after securing Raheem Sterling on loan. PSG, long-time admirers of Rashford, have reportedly cooled their pursuit following a failed bid in 2023.
What’s Next for Rashford?
With seven goals across all competitions this season, Rashford remains a key contributor for United alongside Rasmus Højlund. His expected return to the squad for the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Tottenham on Thursday could provide an opportunity to reaffirm his value.
As the January transfer window approaches, Rashford faces a pivotal moment in his career. Whether he stays to fight for his place at Old Trafford or considers a loan move to rekindle his form, his next steps could define his legacy at Manchester United.
