Marc Cucurella, Chelsea’s ever-improving left-back, recently gave high praise to one of his teammates while admitting that off the pitch, this player doesn’t really look like a typical footballer.
Cucurella, who has had a remarkable turnaround in the past year by finding his best form and securing his place as Chelsea’s first-choice left-back, is now one of the more senior players at the club. At 26, he’s a seasoned figure in an otherwise young squad. His consistency on the field is something many of his teammates could learn from.
Cucurella’s Praise for Cole Palmer
In an interview with The Guardian, Cucurella couldn’t stop raving about Chelsea’s young attacking midfielder, Cole Palmer. He described Palmer as a player who may not look the part off the pitch, but one who delivers magic when the game begins.
Cucurella remarked, “If you see him not in his kit, you would never think he’s a footballer, but once he’s on the field… he shoots and it looks like he’s not hitting it hard, but somehow, he scores them all.”
He went on to explain how unique and special Palmer is, joking that while Palmer’s appearance might not scream “footballer,” his talent certainly speaks for itself. “He’s very different. I don’t know how to explain it—he’s special. We’re lucky to have him,” Cucurella added, even humorously mentioning that Palmer almost ruined things for Spain by coming on and nearly scoring in the Euro finals.
Cole Palmer: A Chelsea Star in the Making
Despite not fitting the mold of a typical footballer in his everyday life, Palmer is one of the most gifted players Chelsea has seen in recent times. He’s proven himself to be a game-changer, and the team has been fortunate to witness his rise.
The 22-year-old playmaker, who joined Chelsea recently, quickly became the standout player in his debut season. His left foot has been a source of joy for the club, and his current form suggests he’s only going to get better. So far in the 2024/25 season, Palmer has already racked up six goals and five assists in just seven Premier League matches.
Sharing the Load in Attack
Fortunately, Palmer isn’t the only one finding the back of the net. The likes of Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, and Noni Madueke have all stepped up, helping to share the goal-scoring load. For Chelsea to succeed this season, the pressure can’t rest solely on Palmer’s shoulders. With their sights set on trophies and a top-four finish, the entire squad will need to step up and deliver, but Palmer will undoubtedly be one of the key figures leading the charge.
