While De Gea is technically a free agent as his contract has expired, no official decision has been made regarding his future. Onana, on the other hand, has emerged as a potential replacement or challenger for the goalkeeper position at United.
The Red Devils had an initial bid for Onana rejected by Inter Milan, but negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing. Sky Sports reported that an agreement is close, with a proposal of £40m plus £5m in add-ons potentially satisfying Milan’s £50m valuation.
Dean Jones believes that United’s successful acquisition of Mason Mount has boosted their confidence in securing a deal for Onana. The potential signing of Onana is expected to uplift the spirits of United fans and bring a change in their style of play, aligning with manager Erik ten Hag’s vision.
